Pm Kalkriese / Venne. The racing pigeon fanciers of the Wittekind Racing Association (RV) enjoyed an extremely informative spring meeting. At the beginning of the event in the Varus-Deele in Kalkriese, Eckhard Rüter, Managing Director of the company TauRIS, used a variety of presentation methods to introduce the pigeon fanciers to the current state of the technical possibilities for evaluating the results of racing pigeon flights. Breaking new ground RV Wittekind had already started using the recording system in 1995, when this technology was first developed and pioneered. At that time, the devices were still completely new territory for pigeon fanciers, but they caught on very quickly. Germany proved to be the founding country. Today, the technology from the Minden-based company is not only still in use unchanged by many fanciers at RV Wittekind, but is now used in 45 countries around the world, including Brazil and South Africa. Eckhard Rüter was also able to report on current and future technical innovations. The possibility for pigeon fanciers to be informed about the specific arrival dates of the returned “sailors of the skies” has already been realized. In the future, work will also be carried out on the idea of “Pigeon Maps”, a system that will enable pigeon fanciers to identify the location of returning birds on a map.
